Dwarka: Residents of Adarsh Apartments grapple with seepage problem

New Delhi: Residents of Adarsh Apartment (Pocket 16, Sector 3) at Dwarka society have been suffering these days due to seepage of alleged sewer water inside society coming from the other side of the boundary wall. Residents at ground floor and the RWA of the society say that the water is coming from the sewer line laid down in adjacent colony Madhu Vihar.

General secretary of RWA, Devesh Mundipi says that the problem has been there for past almost a year. “A constant sewer water is flowing towards our society premises entering from our boundary wall. This dirty water is not only breeding ground for mosquitos, but can spread disease. It needs urgent attention. The society is being managed by MCD, However, MCD or local government authorities including representatives seem not that serious and concerned to care about how grave conditions residents have been living,” he added.

Devesh further says that for the past year, water is flowing into the society from the adjacent colony round the clock creating unhealthy conditions for the residents.

“The sewer water can be seen on roads and I doubt if same water is contaminating the DJB water supply which is also flowing there in pipelines. It might create health issues for the residents. I have raised the matter with MCD and Housing and Urban Affairs department officials and have been following the matter. But no one seems to be concerned about this issue. We’re supposed to have Swatch Bharat Abhiyan and Delhi government efforts of fixing malaria and chikungunya root causes but everyone seems to sleep over these issues in reality. We want immediate attention from the authority in this regard,” Devesh added.

Residents of the flats in the row nearest to the boundary wall are facing a tough situation due to stinking smell, spread sludge and water on the road inside the society. Shiv Sharma, another resident, has been following up the issue with concerned authorities, but he still has to get a result. In his words, “I sent the matter to almost all the concerned authorities and public grievance department but still no one has visited here to look at the problem. This is almost a year we have been suffering.”

RWA says that during MCD elections, the subject was shared to the candidates, and former and present political representatives too didn’t take it seriously. “We are now fed up with writing mails and letters and making calls, meetings etc. When and how they would take it seriously,” said Devesh Mundipi, general secretary of RWA.

The society falls under the jurisdiction of MLA Gulab Singh Yadav, while the area of Madhu Vihar from where the sewer water is entering the society falls under the jurisdiction of MLA Bhavna Gaur.

City Spidey had a talk with Gulab Singh Yadav and Bhavna Gaur both. Gulab Singh Yadav said that the subject that he had a talk with MLA Bhavna Gaur in this regard and also had met the RWAs of the pocket in past.

Bhavna Gaur said on the subject that an estimate has been made to give a permanent solution of the problem by fixing the sewer pipeline properly. She said that in a couple of weeks, the maintenance work would be started.
