Sector 51, Noida: School alleges RWA asked for money to open ‘emergency’ gate The sector gate that the school wants opened for use during emergencies

The tug of war between Manav Rachna International School in Sector 51, Noida, and the RWA of the sector took a fresh turn on Monday, December 19. At a press conference held at the school, the school administration alleged that the RWA had demanded Rs 30,000 per month for opening a gate behind the school that could be used for emergencies.

Lovkesh Mangu, executive director of the school, said, “We are ready to comply with the RWA’s rules, but the RWA did not keep its word about what was decided at a joint meeting of the RWA and the school administration.”

“The RWA had asked the school to obtain membership of the resident body by paying Rs 35,000 annually. Later, it increased the membership amount. It also asked us to pay Rs 30,000 a month for opening a locked gate behind the school premises as an emergency exit. And to put up a school hoarding on the main gate of Block D, it asked us to pay between Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000. When we refused to pay these amounts to the RWA, it installed two height barriers to stop the entry of school buses into the sector,” he added.

The RWA, which caters to blocks C, D, E and F, called the school’s statements baseless. Sanjeev Kumar, general secretary of the RWA, told City Spidey that they never demanded money from the school and that the school had urged them to open a gate behind it, which had been closed for security purposes.

“The school had agreed to pay for two security guards at the emergency gate, if it were to be opened for the passage of school buses. But later the school went back on its decision to pay the RWA,” he said.

Speaking about the issue of putting up the school’s hoarding at the entry gate of the sector, Kumar said, “The RWA told the school that just like all RWAs in the city, it would charge money for putting up hoardings at the entry gate.”

Noida Authority recently dismantled the two height barriers installed by the RWA in the sector.
