Sewer pipeline project in Saket to cost Rs 65 Cr, will benefit lakhs of people

New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is developing a new sewer pipeline project in Saket area. Officials have said that 21 per cent of the Rs 65 Cr project work is already complete and the remaining work will also be completed within the “stipulated time”.

But, DJB Vice Chairman Saurabh Bhardwaj has expressed his disappointment over the current progress of the pipeline project and directed the officials to expeditiously complete the work within the “new deadline”.

Bhardwaj recently conducted a surprise inspection and took stock of the progress of the project. He called the concerned officials on the spot and asked for the complete information about it and also the progress report. He directed them to speed up the construction work.

According to the officials, the speed of the project work had slowed down due to the Covid-19 related lockdown and restrictions, migration of labourers and monsoon. They held that now the project work has once again picked up speed.

The new sewer line project has been started by the Delhi Jal Board in many areas including Saket and its surrounding colonies like Pushp Vihar, Panchsheel Park, Swami Nagar and Greater Kailash with the aim to increase the capacity of the sewer line.

Under the new project, about 20 km long sewer line is being rehabilitated. With a cost of around Rs 65 crore, 21 percent of the project work has been completed. Lakhs of people living in these colonies will benefit directly with the completion of this project as they will get rid of their sewer related problems.

Bhardwaj gave clear instructions during his inspection visit to the officials of DJB and the company working on the project that there must not be any delay in completion of the project. He said, “No delay will be tolerated and necessary action will follow in case there is any delay in the project.” He also directed the officers to submit the progress report of the project at regular intervals.
