The family living in P-45 of Sector 12, Noida, was drugged and robbed by its domestic help on December 23. The maid stole a laptop, an iPad, cash, jewellery, phones and other valuables from the house.

On December 23 around 10 am, a friend of Trilok Singh Negi, one of the victims, was visiting when he found the door open. Once inside, he found Negi (69), his wife Devki (65) and his daughter Sunita (40) lying unconscious in different rooms. "I immediately called the security guards and the neighbours for help," said Rajan Pandey, the friend. "The neighbours called the police. All three were rushed to Metro Hospital in Sector 12 for treatment."

"I was on my way to Gurgaon when I received a call from my cousin around 9 am, saying she could not get through to my parents on phone," said Kamaljeet Singh Negi, who lives in Mumbai but had come to Delhi for work. "I told her not to worry, as it was probably just a network issue. But when, at 11 am, I received a call from my parents' neighbours informing me of the incident, I rushed to our house and found the police already at the scene and my parents and sister lying unconscious."

Police said the maid, who was hired just about three days ago, had drugged the family by mixing something in their food the night before. She stole a laptop, an iPad, cash, jewellery, phones and other valuables. The exact amount of cash stolen can only be determined once the family is able to take stock of the situation.

Suman Nagpal, a neighbour, said Negi went for a walk early in the morning every day and opened the back door once he was back. On December 23, however, the back door was shut, which had never happened in the past eight years. "That did raise a few questions in my mind but I thought it was probably because of the cold," said Nagpal. "The maid was hired a few days ago and nobody really knew her too well. She was seen only a couple of times when she came out to dump garbage."

The police said an investigation was on and that they would get to know further details once the family felt better.
