Dwarka ushers in Christmas with carols and more

To ring in the Yule tide spirit, a carol-singling competition was organised among the different zones in the city; a Christmas-tree decorating contest will also be held on the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes premises on December 8.

In Dwarka, the festive fervour is here, there and everywhere! There are cakes to be baked, Christmas trees to be lit up, and of course, carols to be sung and enjoyed.

In fact, celebrations started almost a couple of weeks back, with carol singing being organised by different groups across the city.  A resident of Happy Home Apartments, Sector 7, Subhash Karunakaran, said, "We have been going from society to society -- singing carols and enjoying! Different societies, too, have organised Christmas celebrations on their premises."

At the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Amberhai village of Sector 19, carol singing would be followed by a mass -- both in Hindi and English -- at 10.30 pm on December 24.

On the morning of Christmas, mass will be held at 7.30 am in Hindi and 9.30 am in English. On December 8, a Christmas-tree-decorating competition has been organised on the church premises.

Different churches across Dwarka will hold mass on Christmas eve at 10.30 pm.

PC Xavier, a member of the management of Sahyadri Apartments in Sector 12, said, "The sector church here is the biggest, where a large section of the Christian community comes for mass and other activities."

The sub-city's Christian community had been divided into six zones for a carol singing competition. Karunakaran informed, "This year, our zone, SCC-1 or Sectors' Christian Community -1, were the runner up. Our team includes sectors 7, 8 and 9 among others. The winner was SCC-3."
