An evening with a difference: ‘Asawari baithak’ to promote classical music

Dwarka: A classical music evening was organised by ‘Asawari Baithak’ - a community group of people associated with classical music this weekend at Arvind Apartments Sector 19B in Dwarka as a drawing room baithak.

Classical music exponent Ayan Chaudhary from Gurgaon performed various formats of singing like Bada Khayaal, Chhota Khayaal bin raag, Shyam Kalyan, Tappa, Thumri etc. Tabla maestro Ranjib Biswas synchronised with him.

Asawari Baithak has been promoting classical music through passionate artists who voluntarily perform time to time.

Dr Shailesh Kumar, a known classical music artist from Dwarka and one of the senior members of the group, was present in the ‘baithak’, says, “We are making small efforts just to connect people who have deep interest in classical music by organizing such meetings on music. Apart from that, people from the community who love listening to such music are also coming together and get connected with the group which is a promotion of the art in itself.”

Richa Jain another member says, “ We often organise such informal baithak in a drawing room voluntarily given by any member of the group or friend . We perform and the artists who do performance do it to support the cause as volunteer. This is now almost a year we started the initiative and people supported the cause.”

Ratna Lahiri, a well-known sitarist and member of the group says, “The beauty of this group is its spirit and love for music. The approach to serve as volunteer for music is a bond with each other. We welcome the community people to join hands with us to spread our own traditional art.”
