Few takers for NMRC’s city bus service between Noida and Greater Noida

Passengers are opting for other modes of transport as they find the bus fare a bit too high while some say that buses don’t have stops near their societies.

Few takers for NMRC’s city bus service between Noida and Greater Noida

The city bus service launched recently by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) between Noida and Greater Noida has not found many takers among residents of the twin cities.

Residents are complaining that the fare of the air-conditioned buses is much higher than that of non-air-conditioned buses run by private operators. They are also saying that the buses do not stop near their societies (See infographic below).

NMRC is running the bus service on three routes. One of them is between Botanical Garden, Noida, and Greater Noida Authority office; another runs from Sector 15, Noida. There is also a shuttle bus service that runs between Botanical Garden and Advant Navis Business Park, Sector 142, Noida.

A bus driver on route number 103B, on condition of anonymity, said, “As soon as passengers hear about the bus fare, they get off the bus. The occupancy of buses are as low as 20 to 30 per cent per trip. The seating capacity of the low-floor AC bus is 36. But they remain vacant on every trip. There are passengers at Amity University but they prefer cabs and auto rickshaws.”

According to an NMRC official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, buses on route M-1, which begins from Sector 15, Noida, have very poor performance. He said that he observed on December 26 that the footfall is very low on the route. Only five to ten passengers board the bus in a trip.

DP Goel, chairman of RWA of Jalvayu Vihar, Sector 21 and Sector 25, said, “The bus passing through the road of my sectors does not have a stop here. If it doesn’t stop, how will we board it? There should be a bus stop on the road between Sector 21 and Sector 25."

Nandini Srivastava, a resident of Sector 137, said that the shuttle bus service does not pass through the roads in the sector. “If it takes the straight road from Panchsheel Balak Inter College to Advant Business Park, how does the NMRC expect us to board the buses? More than 25 residents of the sector have called up the city bus service helpline and registered their demand for bus service in the sector. If the bus service caters to our sector too, residents will definitely board the buses," she added.

The NMRC launched the shuttle bus service in December 23. The service has stops at Botanical garden, GIP, Amity International University, Jaypee Greens, Sector 105 (Noida), ATS Greens Village, Eldeco Studio, Panchseel Balak Inter College and at Advant Navis Business Park in Sector 142, Noida. The bus uses the same route on its return journey.

When City Spidey spoke to Sandeep Raizada, officer on special duty, city bus service, NMRC, he confirmed that there were demands from residents of different sectors. “These demands are being considered and we are also planning to address them. The number of buses is less at the moment but as it increases, the problems will be solved. The footfall will increase gradually. Many people are not aware of the service yet," Raizada added.
