In order to promote cashless digital payments, the first national-level Digi Dhan mela was organised in Gurgaon on December 26 at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38.

The entire fair premises had free wi-fi.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the fair, which was jointly organised by Niti Aayog, a government think-thank, the Department of IT and the Gurgaon district administration.

From items of daily use to handicraft artifacts to horticultural products -- everything -- was available at the fair, but could only be bought digitally.

Competitions were also held for the children, and the prize money was transferred into the bank accounts of various winners.

Banks, too, had stalls at the fair, and opened spot accounts for over 3,000 customers.

About 7,000 people were given training on how to make online payments and use plastic money.

According to the chief minister, as many as 100 such fairs would be organised throughout the country till next-year April.

Awards would also be given out during the fairs to encourage cashless transactions.
