Park for paws and waggling tails: Dwarka urges MCD

Expressing their love for pets, residents of Dwarka Sector 3 and 4 have demanded the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to make the green patch, between Badrinath and Kesarwani apartments in Sector 4, a dedicated park for pets (dogs).

The park is used in the morning and evening by pet owners to stroll their pets.

Anuj Gupta a resident of Karuna Kunj Sector 3, who is a regular visitor to the park with his pet says, “We are a club of 25 to 30 pet owners from different societies who celebrate birthdays of our pets and their owners too through volunteer contribution. Now we want this green patch to be properly maintained as a pet-friendly park.”

He further revealed that the residents met the area councillor Ram Nivas Gehlot for the cleaning of the area and the construction of walls and gates. “We face problems here. Anti-social elements use the area for open consumption of liquor. We can’t fight with them. If this space is properly maintained then they may avoid using it. However, since it is deserted at present they find it easy access,” says he.

As one enters the park, names like Scooby, Tigo, Tipsi, Boomer etc on the wall catch his or her attention. According to the members of the club, the names show the bonding between pet owners with their pets. Anjan Chowdhary, a resident of Chanakya Apartments Sector 4 and a member of the club says, “This is a unique place where one can see a dedicated wall for pets. This area is a meeting place for us and we keep it clean with the contribution we get. But now we need the support of the system and we request them to dedicate it as a pet-friendly park.”

Sudhir Tyagi another member of the club says, “There is a dedicated park in Sector 12 for dogs so why can’t the same be done here at Sector 4? This space is perfect for this purpose.”

Councillor Gehlot has also visited the area and assured the people that the park will be cleaned after the budget will be allocated. He has assured the repairing of the gate and front boundary wall after the budget allocation.
