About 250 members of Senior Citizen Association Dwarka attended an event to celebrate the New Year in Sector 6 on January 1. The association had organised a gala event at the recreation centre in the sector's municipal corporation park.

Various cultural activities were organised, yoga was discussed and there was a health check-up session, in which blood pressure and blood sugar levels were checked. Dentists and ENT specialists were also present.

There was a chaupal (an open verandah or a meeting place in villages), in which the elderly interacted with each other. Several members also came on stage and performed. Some of them sang while a few gave speeches.

Ravi Jaitley, general secretary of the association and joint secretary of Harsukh Apartments (Sector 6), said, “For many members, it was the first time they were perorming on stage. But all of them did a brilliant job, regaling audiences with Hindi, Punjabi and Bhojpuri folk songs.”

Balbir Singh Yadav, president of the association, announced that the association had received a grant from the Delhi government and that members could expect more such events in the future. “Members will be taken on a Delhi tour, which includes Akshardham Temple and Mughal Gardens, in February,” he added.
