Amrapali Village, I'puram: Winds of change

With the builder all set to leave, the society's AOA has sprung into action and making some much-needed improvements.

Amrapali Village, I'puram: Winds of change

Amrapali Village, an Indirapuram society, will soon be free from the builder's tyranny and have its own AOA. The society's AOA has already taken over the maintenance duties and started collecting maintenance charges from December 2016. Rakesh Kumar, general secretary of the AOA, said most of the initial aims and objectives had been achieved but there was still a lot to do.

The move has come as a relief for residents, who were exasperated with the poor service provided by the builder and its callous attitude.

The AOA has started by addressing just that. It has streamlined maintenance duties and implemented the necessary changes in the department. They have replaced the estate manager, a rude man who only used to take orders from the builder. Residents said he was also guilty of misbehaving with female residents. The AOA has also employed a two-member customer helpline. Both the customer service executives are women to facilitate better communication with female residents. Navjyot Kaur Randhawa, a female resident, lauded the AOA's efforts and said the current maintenance office was resident-friendly, unlike the previous one. "Employing female staff is a great move," she said. "It has made it easier for female residents to approach the society's office."

The AOA's next move has been to replace the security service provider.

The AOA's triumph over the builder is a result of several meetings with Ghaziabad Development Authority officials and the Amrapali group.

The AOA has now planned to implement "Bijli Bachao Abhiyan" to reduce the society's power consumption. Under the initiative LED lights will be installed in all common areas of the society. The resident body has also planned to take up the issue of illegal PGs in the society. Residents had earlier complained to GDA about the issue, to which the Authority had asked the builder to furnish details of the flats running PG accommodations. But the attempts never bore fruit. Now the AOA is in the process of collecting details of such flats and is planning to furnish it to GDA.

AOA members said one of the prime objectives for this year was the society's connectivity to NH 24. "There are a few other things, such as getting hold of the NOC, fire clearances and layout plans," added Kumar.
