Rituparno Ghosh will always be remembered as one of the most creative and versatile persona of Indian film industry with his exceptional perspective towards film making. He touched hearts by exploring some unconventional facts of the modern society where people tend to isolate rather than connecting with each other. Rituparno was one of those rare talents who brought a new life to the viewer’s attitude. Rituparno was a strong personality who taught the society how to face situations that you simply cannot change. His world was not only confined in film making and writing but he also expanded the horizon with unconventional messages that we could hardly imagine about.  It will not be exaggerated if we consider him as the fresh version of artistic expression after legendary Bengali film makers like  Satyajit Roy, Tapan Sinha, Gautam Ghosh and Aparna Sen.

Rituparno added a complete different chapter for the Bengali film makers as well as for the film makers for the entire nation.  He was courageous enough to express his feelings and emotions through his films and writing.  He mastered the art of storytelling through his movies and every where he stated it very clearly that we must listen to our inner soul first, instead of thinking about our images to the outside world.  Rituparno tried to convey the message that breaking social barrier is not an unlawful activity and we have the rights to live following our wishes.

One of the most revered filmmaker of the present era in the Indian show business, Rituparno was much-admired nationally and internationally. He was not scared to disclose the fact that he himself was a transgender. Ritoparno explained it to the world that right from his childhood he wanted to become a woman. He had a great fetish to become a woman and he could never resist his wishes. Later on when he grew up to be a matured person he decided that he would never hide the fact that would turn into a complete woman who would exist in this society with respect and love.  It was not easy for Rituparno, famously called as Ritu da in the industry still he traveled a long way with his fight.

Rituparno was well aware about the fact that society never accepts transgender people and their fight is almost never-ending. He expressed his disappointment when he stated that with all his senses he felt the existence of a woman within his own self. Naturally he was born as a male personality but his physical status was completely different from his psychological or emotional state. He had the strong feeling that he was born to be a woman only. So he had to fight with his inner soul first, then with the society.

It was not an easy journey; it was very tough for him and it is still hard for every transgender person on earth. The award winning movie – “Nagar Kirtan” directed by Kaushik Ganguly depicted the story of Rituparno who wished to reborn as a complete woman in the next life. One of the most respected figures in the Indian film industry will always stay in our memory for his historic struggle.
