Sec 12, Dwarka: Rainwater harvesting in Vikram Nagar CGHS

Vikram Nagar Cooperative Group Housing Society, in Sector 12, Dwarka, is all set to adopt rainwater harvesting. Construction work on the system is already on in the society.

At a recent general body meeting, 93 members decided to adopt proactive measures for the environment and felt the need to take up rainwater harvesting.

Sanjay Sagar, president of the society, said, “Through participatory planning, they unanimously approved the proposal for a rainwater harvestng system in the society. A tender was floated and a suitable vendor was selected for the project.”

“We carried out a detailed audit of water usage in the society," said Anuj Mahajan, vice-president of the society. "We discovered that due to rapid urbanisation, infiltration of rainwater into the sub-soil has decreased drastically. Through the rainwater harvesting system, we can help increase the groundwater table. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 15 lakh.”

Speaking about the technicalities of the project, AK Mittal, secretary of the society, said, "A technical consultant visited our society and found that the ground sloped in two parts of the society, so all rainwater will naturally gather here. One is near the main gate and the other part towards the back of the transformer room. So the rainwater harvesting structures are being developed at these two locations.”
