I'puram: Avoid this death trap on Kala Patthar Marg

An open drain pit right in the middle of the busy Kala Patthar Marg in Indirapuram has become a major cause for concern for residents and daily commuters. The almost 4-ft-deep pit is especially dangerous, as it is located right at the bend of a U-turn on the road.

The pit is located at the intersection of Kala Patthar Marg and Windsor Road.

The pit is part of a culvert constructed about a year back to connect drains on either side of the road. Local shopkeepers said the pit was created when the culvert was being constructed but was covered with concrete slabs after complaints.

Recently, however, one of the two slabs gave away, reopening the hole. The other slab is also about to give way.

Praveen Kumar Mishra, a local shopkeeper, told City Spidey that the hole had been the sole reason behind several mishaps in the past couple of months. "Just a few days back, an unsuspecting vehicle got stuck in the hole. Me, along with a few others, helped the passengers out," he added.

Naresh Singla, a resident of Ahinsa Khand I, told City Spidey that he was especially careful around the area because he was aware of the pit. "Thankfully, I have so far managed to not fall in," Singla added.

City Spidey took up the issue with Chakresh Jain, executive engineer of GDA. Taking note of the issue, Jain said the hole would be covered immediately.
