A wildlife photographer studying in Amity Institute of Wildlife Sciences, Noida, was surprised to get back his lost bag when a Delhi University student managed to track him down on Facebook.

Vimrash Sharma, the photographer, had left his bag behind in an autorickshaw in Anand Vihar. He was switching rides to take another auto to his house in VasundharaGhaziabad. Sharma, who is currently working as an intern with National Zoological Park, Delhi, said he reached out to police stations at Anand Vihar and Kaushambi to help retrieve the lost bag. It contained a camera and an Amazon Kindle. He said that though the police took note of his complaint, they said they may not be able to recover his belongings, as he had no information on the auto driver's name or the auto's registration number.

"I was heartbroken," said Sharma. "I was not in the mood to celebrate on New Year's Eve, as I had lost my camera on December 31. I just went to sleep early. How could I? I had lost all the photos I had taken and my entire collection of books. I had no hope of ever getting them back."

As fate would have it, the auto driver spotted the abandoned bag and wanted to hand it over to the police. But his nephew Rohit Kumar, a Delhi University student staying in Khora village in Ghaziabad, persuaded him not to do so, fearing the owner would never get back his belongings. Kumar used his presence of mind to recover Sharma's email ID from his Kindle, and with its help, managed to track him down on Facebook. He left a message informing Sharma that his bag was safe and that he should collect it from his address.

A day later, Sharma, along with his father, visited Kumar and collected his bag.

Sharma said he was touched by Kumar's integrity and thanked him for reaffirming his faith in humanity.
