Environment and its protection and conservation was discussed in a seminar organised recently at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. University School of Environment Management organised one - day seminar on the occasion of Earth Day on 25th April 2023. The theme of this year’s earth day is “Invest in our Planet”. The school organised the event as part of the 25th Silver Jubilee celebration of the university.

Dr Sanjay K Das and Dr Neetu Rani, faculty from USEM organised the event under the guidance of  Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mahesh Verma and Prof, Rita Singh, Dean USEM, GGSIPU. All faculty members, staff, research scholars, and post-graduate students participated in the event. Dr Rachna Arora, Team Leader, and Coordinator, EU-supported Resource Efficiency Initiative for India (EU-REI), GIZ, Delhi addressed the audience on very important components i.e. Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy in Indian Context. Dr Rachna touched upon all the important aspects related to the circular economy and how youth can contribute towards the sustainable use of resources.

The other speaker Dr Manu Bhatnagar, Principle Director, Natural Heritage Division, INTACH, Delhi provided vast knowledge on the urban biodiversity of Delhi, its benefits, and some other challenges.  Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mahesh Verma shared a  message with all the participants. He said that our earth is very beautiful, let’s take a pledge for its protection and sustainable use of available resources. Prof Rita Singh, Dean of USEM also shared her views on earth day. She acknowledged the story of silent spring in her speech and made everyone aware of the contribution of great environmentalists and researchers in the protection of our earth.

Dr Sanjay K Das and Dr Neetu Rani conveyed a message to everyone that we all should act in an environment-friendly manner for the protection of mother earth. Everyone appreciated the contribution of the research team including Anirudh, Pooja, Deeksha, Pragya, Shruti, Bhupender, Shamsher, Taruna, Tanu, and Divya in organising the seminar smoothly. The research team organised two important competitions, Extempore and Floral quiz on environment-related topics for the participants.
