Dwarka, Sector 5: Who would want to play in this park?

This playground paints a sorry picture of administrative apathy, with its broken swings, missing lights and shabby appearance.

Dwarka, Sector 5: Who would want to play in this park?

Here’s a park that children wouldn’t ever want to go to. The neighbourhood park of Sector 5, with its broken swings, missing lights and shabby appearance, is proof of administrative apathy.

The park, which has zero maintenance, has been handed over from the DDA to the municipal corporation because it has an area of less than 3 acres.

Located near societies such as DDA SFS Flats, Shri Ganinath Apartments, Vivekananda Apartments, Mansarovar Apartments, Kesarwani Apartments and Lovely Home Apartments, this park would once be used for walks, play and general neighbourly banter, but not any more.

Mahesh Gupta, RWA general secretary of DDA SFS Flats, says, “The authorities should at least remove the broken fittings and swings, so the children don’t get hurt. Also, the park ground is so uneven that senior citizens find it difficult to walk on.”

A resident of Lovely Home Apartments, Vishal Gupta, says, “Neither did the DDA take any interest, nor is the corporation any more keen now. As it is, there is a scarcity of play areas for children in the NCR, and now even the existing parks are not being maintained. There is no justification for this.”

Speaking on the subject, assistant director of horticulture, SDMC, Raj Kumar, assures, “SDMC has taken over about 1,228 parks from the DDA in this zone. Most of the parks were in bad shape, and now we are slowly developing them. This park, too, will be developed — work will start as soon as possible.”
