I'puram: Martyr's parents distressed about broken memorial Captain Devinder Singh Jass's parents

Parents of Captain Devinder Singh Jass, a martyr, are dismayed to find the inscription board named after their son broken. The parents, who live in Mahagun Mansion Phase I, Indirapuram, said they were informed about the broken granite board on January 9 by local shopkeepers. According to them, the board had been damaged by workers while repairing the verges on Shaheed Devinder Singh Jass Marg.

In July 2010, following the demands of residents, the road between Mahagun Mansion and Shipra Mall was named Shaheed Devinder Singh Jass Marg, after the martyr who had sacrificed his life fighting terrorists five months ago.

Parents of the martyr said that if the damage caused was intentional, the one responsible should be punished. However, Bhupinder Singh Jass, the martyr's father, said he had already approached the district administration and Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) with a complaint and had been assured that the board would be repaired. "It is heartbreaking to see our son's memorial lying broken," said Jass. "We hope it is repaired soon."

GDA officials said they did not know how the board was damaged. "It could have been the work of miscreants or could have been broken accidentally," said an official. "But the board will soon be repaired."
