No polling station for the convenience of voters from new Noida sectors

Residents were looking forward to having a polling station in close proximity, at The Manthan School in Sector 78, but were disappointed after the election commission scrapped the proposal.

No polling station for the convenience of voters from new Noida sectors

The district election commissioner has withdrawn a proposal for setting up a new polling station for the convenience of voters, especially for those living in the new sectors of Noida.

This proposal had been made to segregate urban and rural voters. The election commission had mooted the idea to set up a new polling station at The Manthan School, a private school in Sector 78, and had sought permission from the school administration.

However, the commission withdrew the idea, as the revised electoral rolls contained names of voters from both the new sectors and the local Sorkha Sahibabad village. Amit Kumar Singh, sub-divisional magistrate (Dadri), told City Spidey that no new polling station had been set up in the city.

Voters from the new sectors, such as 74, 75, 76, 77 and 78, can cast their votes at the community centre of Sorkha Sahibabad village. They can also check their names in the revised electoral rolls there. Another polling station for villagers has been set up in the village government school.

Abhishek Srivastava, a resident of Mahagun Moderne, a society in Sector 78, said, “Some residents of my society visited The Manthan School to look up their names in the new electoral rolls. But they returned disappointed, as on-duty security guards informed them that nothing had come from the election commissioners’ office so far.”

“Though they were looking forward to having a polling station in close proximity, their hopes were dashed after the election commission scrapped the proposal,” he added.
