Noida schools remain open despite DM’s orders

Many schools remained open to conduct classes from Standard IX to XII, citing pre-board exams.

Noida schools remain open despite DM’s orders Apeejay School in Sector 16 A remained open on January 13

District magistrate NP Singh passed an order on January 12, asking all schools in the district to not hold classes till January 15 in view of the prevailing cold wave in northern India. However, children were seen going to school the next day.

Several schools, such as Apeejay School in Sector 16 A, DPS in Sector 30 and Model School in Sector 11, remained open.

Sumit Chaudhary, a Class VII student of Model School, said, “I wasn't sure if my school would remain open. At least, the school authorities didn't announce anything on January 12.”

Many schools were operational for classes IX to XII.

Rakesh Singh, a parent, told City Spidey that they weren't informed by the school authorities about holidays till January 15. However, after reaching school, his daughter was informed that the school would remain closed for classes I to VIII, but open for classes IX to XII.

An official of Apeejay School spoke to City Spidey. He said, “This is the time when schools conduct pre-board exams for classes X and XII.  At this point, we are also trying to wind up the syllabus to give students some time before the annual examination. This decision to keep schools closed till January 15 will force teachers to rush through the syllabus, and that will certainly affect the performance of the students.”

Bheem Singh, district inspector of schools, said the administration would send notices to the schools seeking an explanation to why they remained open despite clear directives from the DM.
