To rein in miscreants, particularly snatchers in Greater Noida, the city's police has planned to work in unison with its RWAs.
Photographs of the accused in cases of thefts and snatching are being pasted at the entry gates of societies and residential areas. The pictures help residents identify the culprits and inform the police if they are seen loitering in or around the sector.
The initiative has been started on a trial basis in Sector Alpha I. It will soon be introduced in other sectors as well.
Thieves mainly target locked homes and manage to escape even in broad daylight. Miscreants target women, snatching gold ornaments and mobile phones.
A rise in the number of such incidents has made residents feel insecure. With this in mind, Kasna police station started the initiative in collaboration with the resident body of Sector Alpha I.
Anil Bhati, president of Sector Alpha I RWA, said, “The combined effort with the police is to ensure safety and security for residents.”
Sudhir Tyagi, SHO, Kasna police station, told City Spidey that the police would assess the response to the initiative. “Some criminals, after they are released from jail, go back to their old ways. They also loiter around looking for new targets. They sometimes strike after approaching a person or a home on the pretext of renting a room or a flat within the sector,” he said.
"Later, we will discuss the initiative with the RWAs of other sectors and implement the initiative there too," Tyagi added.
