The portion of the boundary wall that has been turned into a donation-and-collection centre for the needy
When you can, you must. That’s what a section of residents of Gaur Green City, Indirapuram, had in mind when they set up the neki ki deewar, or the wall of good deeds.
What is neki ki deewar?
Members of Helping Others, a group of residents involved in philanthropic work, have converted a portion of the boundary wall next to the society's Gate No 2 into a makeshift shed, with several clothes lines. Residents can simply hang the clothes they want to give away here.
The initiative was started on January 16, with more than 27 residents participating. Speaking to City Spidey, a member of Helping Others said the group had initially wanted to put up the wall within the society, but then decided to take the whole thing outside, as that would be more accessible to the needy.
The wall was a huge success on the very first day, as many people from nearby areas came to pick up the donated clothes.
"We have urged residents to donate only those clothes that can be worn and are in good condition. No point giving away stuff that nobody can wear. This is a good opportunity for residents to rid their homes of clutter while doing something good. So it’s a win-win,” explained Nagendra Singh, a member of Helping Others.
He added, "We’ll plan dates when residents can come and put up the clothes themselves. Similarly, we will spread the word in the nearby areas, according to the planned schedule. The process should be able to run smoothly on its own in a few months.”
The shed was built by the society AOA, but Helping Others has promised to refund the entire cost.
