East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) will be reaching out to RWAs, federations of group housing societies and trade unions of East Delhi to prepare its final annual budget this year. The corporation will present its annual budget to a standing committee on January 30. According to sources, it was the standing committee chairman's proposal to involve RWA and CGHS members for budget preparation.

When City Spidey spoke to the RWAs in East Delhi, some of them confirmed that they had received text messages from EDMC regarding a meeting. However, they had no information about when.

BS Vohra, president of the federation of East Delhi, said, “I received an invitation on WhatsApp a couple of weeks back. But it did not mention a date for the meeting. When I contacted the person who sent the message, I was told that the date would be confirmed soon.”

Vohra further said, “It's a good thing that RWAs are being involved in discussions about the budget. RWAs are public representative bodies and their involvement should be mandatory for both the MCD's and the Delhi government’s budget.”

JP Sharma, secretary of federation of CGHS in Vasundhara Enclave, said he had no information about the meeting. “I only came to know of the meeting through City Spidey," Sharma said. "The federation is yet to receive an invitation or letter on this matter. But if they contact us, we will support and apprise them of our needs.”

In a telephonic conversation with City Spidey, chairman of the EDMC standing committee, Jitender Chaudhari, said, “Yes, we are planning to involve resident bodies and the general public. The schedule for the meetings with the various RWAs will be announced soon.”
