Residents of Indirapuram are exasperated with the extreme traffic congestion during peak hours. They said traffic from the nearby NH 24, and at the Kala Patthar intersection and the Shipra underpass (marked in red in the map below), go haywire due to Ghaziabad Traffic Police's poor management.

Both the Kala Patthar intersection and the Shipra underpass witness traffic from East Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. Residents of Vaibhav Khand, an area sandwiched between the two, said the area was a nightmare during rush hours.

Sharing his personal experience, SC Mandal, a senior citizen and resident of Amrapali Village, said he did not take his car out in the morning and evening peak hours. "There was an instance in which I got into a scuffle with another driver who was coming from the wrong side of the road," said Mandal. "The man started threatening me. I was saved by a passerby who understood that it was the other person's fault. I now prefer a rickshaw over my own car."

Shekhar Shrivastava, a resident of Mahagun Mansion Ph I, a society located about 250 m from the Kala Patthar intersection, told City Spidey that during peak hours, it took more than 30 minutes to approach the highway, which normally took less than five minutes. "Better traffic management is the only solution, as commuters are always in a hurry and often violate traffic rules, leading to chaos," Shrivastava added.

Jigyasu Pan, a resident of Gaur Green City, closest to both the underpasses, voiced similar sentiments. Pan said traffic started congesting the Shipra Underpass and gradually blocked the entire Shaheed Devinder Singh Jass Marg. "At times, we have to wait for more than half an hour just at the society's entrance before going anywhere."

Pan, however, maintained that the recently built underpass near Ahinsa Khand and Sector 62, Noida, had helped ease some of the congestion.

City Spidey took up the issue with Rajesh Kumar, SP traffic of Ghaziabad. Kumar acknowledged the problem and identified heavy traffic movement on NH 24 as the root cause. "To avoid the highway traffic, commuters take the connecting roads roads of the nearby areas. We have recently enhanced traffic management at the Kala Patthar intersection. I will get the issue sorted out soon," he added.
