One-way wasn't the answer to traffic snarls on this Noida road

One-way wasn't the answer to traffic snarls on this Noida road

It's been a year that traffic flow on Udyog Marg and Harola Road in Noida was restricted to a single direction but numbers suggest that Noida has been brazenly flouting this rule.

Traffic on both the roads was converted to "one way" on January 23 last year. The move was supposed to ease traffic congestion on both the roads. While the plan was touted as a cure to traffic snarls on the route, the truth is that traffic police has struggled to implement the rule.

Since last year, there have been 8,218 drivers challaned.

Rajesh Singh, a daily commuter on these roads, attributes part of the failure in keeping the roads congestion-free to Noida Authority. According to him, despite promises to remove encroachments and illegal parking on both the roads, the Authority has not taken a single step till date. "The Authority officials had also promised to repair the damaged sections of the roads but a year has gone by without any tangible improvement," he adds.

When City Spidey took up the matter with SP Traffic Noida, Prabal Pratap Singh, he said they were dedicated in implementing the one-way rule on both the roads and challans were being issued to those who flouted it. "There is some work, such as installation of signages and road repairs, that we have asked the Authority to carry out at the earliest," he added.
