Here’s some good news for residents of Dwarka, especially the health-conscious. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation is set to develop two open-air gyms in each ward in Dwarka.
Area councillors say the parks that have the highest visitor footfall have been earmarked for the purpose.
Shashi Tomar, councillor of Ward No 135, said, “We will develop two open-air gyms in a couple of weeks in our ward. One gym will be developed at the neighbourhood park behind Radhika Apartments in Sector 14 and the other behind Rockland Hospital in Sector 12.”
“Using the MP fund, the corporation has already developed six open-air gyms in our ward — at Kargil Apartments in Sector 18, behind Park View Apartments and in the parks of sectors 11, 16, 17 and 18,” Tomar added.
Praveen Rana, councillor of the Bijwasan ward, said, “We are going to develop the gyms in Sector 8 and Bijwasan.”
The SDMC is developing the gyms in parks that have been handed over by DDA. The DDA has already developed several open-air gyms in parks across Dwarka.
SS Chowhan, president of Radhika Apartments, Sector 14, told City Spidey, “This is a welcome initiative and we are thankful to the corporation.”
P Menon, treasurer of Dwarka Forum and a member of the Ashirvad Apartments management (Sector 12), “There was a need for open-air gyms in our area, as there are many cooperative societies and DDA pockets here. The park chosen by the corporation is at one of the best locations. We appreciate the corporation’s efforts.”
