East Delhi police have cracked down on a gang of three men and two women who used to rob passengers of shared autos from Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan railway stations at night.

All five hail from the Trilokpuri area in East Delhi. Omvir Singh, DCP East, told City Spidey that though they had managed to arrest only five persons till now, the number of accomplices may be more and that the police were on the lookout for them.

Elaborating on their modus operandi, Singh said, “They used to pick up people headed to Mayur Vihar Phase I, Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension and New Ashok Nagar from the stations or nearby bus stands. The auto driver used to be part of the team. They robbed passengers when the auto neared Mayur Vihar,” added Singh.

“On January 2, they robbed one person of Rs 2,000, two ATM cards and a bag. Another case was reported on January 22, when they robbed a person who had hired the auto for New Ashok Nagar,” said a police official.
