Traffic snarls are becoming more and more frequent in Noida, as signals at major intersections have stopped functioning properly.

Of the 105 traffic signals across the city, 13 are not working. They include signals at the Sector 12 crossing, Sector 21 A Noida Stadium, Sector 25 A, the sector 22, 23, 54 crossing, and near Degree College in Sector 39.

Ram Yadav, a resident of Sector 56, told City Spidey that he spends about 30 minutes to cross the Noida Stadium crossing. “There is no traffic police and nor do the signals work — the poor commuters suffer needlessly,” he complained.

Amit Kumar, a resident of Sector 12, said the traffic signal of the Sector 12 crossing has been malfunctioning frequently. He added, “There’s a police chowki in the vicinity, but there’s no one to manage the traffic at peak hours.”

When City Spidey contacted Dharmendra Yadav, Noida traffic inspector, he said they had complained about the non-functioning traffic lights to Noida Authority. He elaborated, “The scarcity of traffic cops makes the situation even more difficult. There are only 120 traffic constables and 44 head constables in Noida, which has a population of over 6 lakh! So you can well imagine the situation.”
