Sit pretty in NMRC's new buses; Sec. 74, 76, 77 residents say 'at last'!

Residents of these new Noida sectors are glad they now have an alternative to the overcharging auto drivers.

Sit pretty in NMRC's new buses; Sec. 74, 76, 77 residents say 'at last'!

Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has introduced two AC buses for sectors 74, 76 and 77. They start at Supertech Capetown, a society in Sector 74, pass through societies such as Prateek Wisteria in Sector 77 and JM Orchid in Sector 76 and terminate at Shashi Chowk, near Golf Course Metro station in Sector 37.

NMRC has also said the number of buses can go up if there is a demand.

The sectors on the bus route are fairly new and lack public transport, with residents depending entirely on private auto rickshaws for commuting. They believe the new buses will end the monopoly of auto drivers, who have been fleecing commuters.

“Unlike Delhi, there is no fixed rate here, and the fare often has no correlation with the distance travelled," said Nisha Rai, a regular commuter on this route. "With the lack of a proper system in place, they overcharge commuters. They increase the fare if one is travelling late at night or in the wee hours, or even during peak hours."

Rai explained that she pays Rs 70 as fare during peak hours, which was Rs 10 more than what she'd have to pay at any other time of the day. "Commuters are forced to pay more than double the usual fare if they are headed to Atta market, just because it's a shopping area," said Rai. "We are tired of these tantrums. If one wants to travel a relatively longer distance after sunset, they straightaway refuse."

Ram Tiwari, a commuter who lives in Supertech Capetown, said the new bus service has come as a huge relief. "It has made things quite convenient, though the frequency needs to go up," said Tiwari. "I am glad we have an alternative to these auto drivers. And the buses are perfect — easy on the pocket and quite comfortable."

Commuters from these sectors, however, have requested NMRC to place signboards at the bus stops. Let's hope NMRC complies.
