Residents of Nirman Apartments, a cooperative group housing society in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension, will soon find their society garden full of flowers.

The managing committee allocates funds every year to maintain the T-shaped garden. This year, it plans to give it a makeover on a budget of about Rs 50,000 — of which the committee has already spent Rs 20,000 to purchase warming compost from the Ghazipur landfill. It has also appointed two gardeners.

The garden is the lifeline of the society, as most residents, particularly senior citizens and women, regularly use it to spend evenings or catch up with friends. The complex has 240 flats.

"We keep our garden clean and green. It has several species of flowers and small-sized plants,” says RC Mittal, a member of the managing committee.
