I’puram: Missing girl Archie found in Himachal Pradesh

Archie Yadav, the 12-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Shakti Khand 3, Indirapuram, on February 13, was found in Kangra on February 16. However, the police has not been able to ascertain the reason behind the girl’s disappearance, or how she managed to reach Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, around 500 km from her house.

Addressing the media at a press conference held at Indirapuram police station on February 17, SP (City), Salmantaj Patil, said the girl has been repeatedly changing her story.

Strangely, according to the police, in one the versions, the girl says that her name is Tina Devi and she had escaped from an orphanage in Haridwar, where she was beaten up by two men named Suman and Suresh.

Archie’s parents, one uncle and two representatives of Ghaziabad police went to get her from an NGO in Dharamshala. They met her on February 17 at around 2 pm.

When asked about how she reached Palampur Bus Stand, Sunil Yadav, her uncle said, “She is under a lot of stress and started crying after meeting her mother. We have been asked to not pressurise her with our questions, but she did say that a woman came to her front door that afternoon, and after talking to her for a minute, she hypnotised her and asked her to come out, lock the house and follow her to the car, where another woman was waiting for her. This other woman apparently took her to Pathankot by train.”

“She said that she managed to escape in Pathankot, and then reached Palampur in a mini-train and was looking for a bus to get back to Ghaziabad before being found by the Palampur police," he added.

However, the police maintained that this is just one of the many versions that Archie has shared with the Palampur police. “She also said that she went to Kangra with two courier boys. She also said that she could not complete some school work, which is why she was tense. She even gave these multiple versions before the judge in Kangra,” said Patil.

According to Ghaziabd police, the girl has been found from a child care centre in Kangra. "She is safe. We are trying not to stress her out. Further investigations will be done once she is back, and is with her family," added Patil.
