Noida: Vacant plot earmarked for parks turns into a dump

Plot located near Prateek Wisteria, Sector 77, shows how Noida Authority’s cleanliness drive, which was launched last month, has lost steam.

Noida: Vacant plot earmarked for parks turns into a dump The plot where garbage is being dumped illegally

A massive cleaning drive launched by Noida Authority in January seems to be losing momentum. Residents are complaining that garbage is being illegally dumped at a vacant plot in the city and blame the Authority for it.

They say that the vacant plot located opposite Prateek Wisteria, a residential society in Sector 77, is fast turning into a dumping yard. They claim that truckloads of construction waste has been dumped at the site.

“I’ve seen many construction labourers and private sweepers throwing garbage on the vacant plot. As the Authority is not doing anything about it, they keep dumping garbage at the plot,” says Nisha Rai, a resident of Prateek Wisteria.

Yudhvir Singh, another resident of the society, says, “The practice is making the area very filthy. Moreover, it is illegally turning the plot into a garbage dumping yard. It’s high time Noida Authority wakes up and does something about it.”

Residents are also concerned as the plot is reserved for developing recreation centre for residents of the new sectors in the city. Sanjay Sahani, a resident of Antriksh Forest, a residential society in Sector 77, says, “The Authority has earmarked the vacant plot for development of parks and community centre. But there is no indication that a recreation centre is coming up here. Meanwhile, the plot is turning into a dump.”

When City Spidey contacted Sat Pal, assistant project engineer with Noida Authority under whose jurisdiction the area falls, he said, “The builders are throwing construction waste in the vacant plot. We have taken note of the issue and the defaulters will be served with notices within a week’s time.”
