Will DJB be able to supply contamination-free water 24x7 from March?

Manish Sisodia, Delhi deputy chief minister, announced that under the pilot project, 11 zones in Mehrauli and Vasant Vihar area would receive 24x7 water supply.

Will DJB be able to supply contamination-free water 24x7 from March?

If the Delhi government’s claims are to believed, Delhi Jal Board's water supply from next month will be round the clock and contamination-free.

Manish Sisodia, Delhi deputy chief minister, on February 26 announced the recent development while addressing a congregation of residents in Mayur Vihar Phase I.

Sisodia said residents of the city would be able to drink water directly from their kitchen taps. “In the first phase, DJB has selected 11 zones in the Mehrauli and Vasant Vihar areas, where 24x7 water supply will be maintained," said Sisodia, in his speech. "After two years of hard work, DJB is all set to start the project by next month. Once the pilot project succeeds, other areas, too, will receive contamination-free water round the clock."

RS Tyagi, a junior engineer from DJB's East Delhi office, told City Spidey that 24x7 water supply would ensure water quality. "The water we supply during the mornings and the evenings is of high quality but gets contaminated due to various outside factors,” said Tyagi.

To explain his point, Tyagi said, "Residents often instal booster pumps if the water pressure is low. This exerts pressure on the pipeline and eventually leads to damage, which, in turn, allows contaminants to enter the pipe and contaminate the water. With the upgraded technology we will be using, any contamination will be automatically neutralised with chlorine."

He added DJB was also in the process of replacing old pipelines.
