The rise in digital transactions has also spiked the number of cyber-crime cases in the recent past. Last week, a Noida resident reported Rs 12,700 missing from his Paytm wallet.

Ashish Verma, a resident of Sector 19, has been a regular Paytm user since demonetisation. On February 25, around 3.30 pm, Verma received three text messages on his mobile phone, notifying him of a fund transfer of Rs 12,700 from his Paytm wallet to an unknown account.

Verma had transferred Rs 1 lakh to his Paytm wallet during demonetisation. After paying for some major electrical and wiring work in his house recently, his wallet was left with a balance of Rs 13,000.

Verma told City Spidey that he had called up Paytm's helpline number and lodged a complaint. "Thereafter, I went to the Sector 20 police station and lodged a complaint there as well," said Verma.

When City Spidey spoke to Anil Pratap Yadav, SO of the Sector 20 police station, he said the case had been forwarded to the cyber crime office in Sector 6 for further investigation.

City Spidey tried to reach Nitin Mishra, vice-president (Communications), Paytm, but he was reportedly busy in a meeting.
