Vasundhara Enclave gets mini indoor stadium after five years!

Though sports lovers will now have a place of their own to hone their skills, many residents wonder what took EDMC so long to complete the building.

Vasundhara Enclave gets mini indoor stadium after five years!

Residents of Vasundhara Enclave have reason to rejoice as the much-awaited mini indoor stadium was inaugurated in the area by Mahesh Giri, Member of Parliament (East Delhi), on February 28.

The stadium is located next to a municipal school in Block C. There are about 10 group housing societies in close proximity of the stadium. Residents can avail of the facilities by paying Rs 600 as registration fee for six months.

Giri said, “The development of the mini stadium will lead to better physical and mental fitness in children. There is no dearth of talent and providing quality infrastructure will develop new skills in them.”

The two-storey building was constructed at a cost of about Rs 70 lakh over two months. However, interestingly, despite the EDMC laying the foundation of the building in 2012, the building was completed only this year.

JP Sharma, general secretary of Vasundhara Enclave CGHS, he said, “The foundation was laid in 2012 before the MCD polls, but no further construction was done at the time. As the municipal polls are scheduled to be held next month, the party ruling MCD might have thought the residents would ask about the mini indoor stadium and completed the entire construction in two months. But the good thing is now that at least now the sports lovers in the area will have a place for themselves.”

The corporation is yet to decide the department that will run the stadium. Speaking about the issue, Jitender Chaudhari, chairman of standing committee, EDMC, told City Spidey, “The corporation has no sports management team. But we will discuss the issue.”

Satya Sharma, EDMC mayor, said, “The corporation has not deviated from its objective of providing quality civic amenities to residents. The development of the mini stadium will prove beneficial to children.”
