Water woes continue to plague Dwarka Kunj Apartments

Dwarka Kunj Apartments of Sector 12 is suffering from persistent water problems. Insufficient and irregular supply, technical faults in water pipelines — something or the other — has thrown life out of gear for the residents of over 100 flats.

RWA president, ED Thomas, said, “We have been suffering for months now. We are compelled to take water from tankers. Delhi Jal Board [DJB] has been supplying water from underground reservoirs [UGRs], which is not regular. Summers are here, and we want the problem to be resolved as soon as possible.”

Dwarka Kunj has 128 flats distributed over eight blocks — of them, the flats around the corner, near Gate No 2, are the worst affected.

RS Rai, an executive member of the RWA and a resident of Flat No 3, said, “Flats from 1 to 12 and 64 to 75 do not get water through UGR pipelines, as there is a problem in it. The DJB supplies water from 6 am to 7.20 am every day, but we get water for only 10-20 minutes. So we are forced to call a tanker, but that’s not a solution. The DJB should do the needful.”

Rai further added, “DJB supply is not sufficient, and there is need for a separate UGR to meet the demand — or the supply should be increased. One UGR supplies water to five residential pockets! The DJB needs to act as soon as possible.”

After repeated complaints and following up with DDA, a team of engineers visited the site in 2015, and checked the water pipelines in the area. But the situation did not improve even after repairing and cleaning the pipes.

An executive member of the RWA, Prabhakar Gautam, said, “Initially, 16 flats were affected due to defective pipelines, but with time, more flats are getting impacted. Now, 32 flats don’t have sufficient supply.”

Speaking on the matter, area MLA Gulab Singh Yadav said, “I will take up the matter with the concerned department, and will soon visit the area with DJB officials. I will ask DDA to replace the old pipelines, and provide an estimate for that."
