East Delhi: Can the residents hope for a better summer?

In a bid to provide uninterrupted power supply, the power department of the Delhi government has set up an automation system near Una Enclave, a Cooperative Group Housing Society (CGHS) in Mayur Vihar Phase I.

The step is expected to spell respite for 36 housing societies this summer.

Suryadev Gautam, a junior engineer associated with power department, said, "Through this modern generation system, power connection system has been directly connected with a System Application Product (SAP). Also, two power sub-stations (60kV and 33 kV) located in the area have been connected with another modern system — Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA). It is also known as industrial automation control system, usually used in industrial areas."

Gautam told City Spidey that the project cost around Rs 1.8 crore.

Pawan Vasudeva, a resident of Una Enclave, and president of Federation of Mayur Vihar Phase I CGHS, said, "Continuous powercuts during peak summers made life hellish for the residents. This year, we hope to get uninterrupted power supply.”

According to Gautam, the new system will automatically locate electric faults and isolate it from the main (power supply) system. This way, he added, it will save the time between fault location and its rectification — done manually in the past.

"This new system will also help to regulate other parameters, such as voltage and current,” he concluded.
