Noida to get its first rehabilitation home

Till now, Noida and Greater Noida had no place to accommodate homeless women and rehabilitate juvenile delinquents. But that won't be the case any longer. The twin cities are expected to get their first destitute home and juvenile correction facility by the end of April.

The nari niketan and juvenile home will come up in Sector 34 Noida. So far, Meerut was the nearest destination with a similar facility.

The construction of the centre, which commenced in March 2014, was scheduled to be completed by February 2016. But due to technical reasons, the project was extended till April.

AK Sharma, project engineer of Noida Authority, told City Spidey that 90 per cent of the work was complete and that the building was being given its final touches.

The cost of building the facility is estimated to be Rs 6.5 crore. The four-storey complex will have a residential facility for about 50 women and 50 juveniles. Besides, the premises will house the offices of the Child Welfare Board, the Juvenile Justice Board and the Women Welfare Board.

The rehabilitation centre will also have a teaching facility for juveniles, a well-equipped library, a first-aid room and a recreational block. CCTV cameras will be installed for round-the-clock surveillance of inmates.
