On International Women’s Day, several events were held in Dwarka and Gurgaon to mark the occasion. City Spidey brings you a few pictures from some of those events:

Dwarka

Choti Si Khushi, a social organisation in Dwarka, organised a programme to raise awareness among the underprivileged women about financial management at the neighbourhood park behind Heritage Tower, Sector 3, on March 7 and March 8.

Seema Joshi, a resident of Ashirvad Apartments, Sector 12, and a volunteer of Choti Si Khushi, told City Spidey, “We gave them lessons on savings, loans and investments. Women’s Day was the apt occasion for this two-day initiative.”

Meanwhile, in Sector 6, a peace walk against Female Genital Mutilation was organised by Sahaj Sambhav, a social organisation. Hundreds of women from various sectors participated in the walk. Cultural programmes were also organised in an MCD park in the sector.

Gurgaon

In Sushant Lok, Khetrapal Educational and Charitable Trust organised an event where several women achievers were honoured.

Rama Pandey, a journalist and social activist, and Samta Batra, a businesswoman, were honoured for their contribution in their respective fields. Indu Jain, an educationalist for the last 15 years and who has been working towards a vision to make learning simple, and Dr. Prerna Garg, a physician and founder of Sleep Cure Solutions, were also honoured. Neela Kaushik, founder of Gurgaon Moms, Amita Chandok, who owns a restaurant, and Neena Khanna, a Australia-based NRI who owns businesses in Melbourne and Africa, were also honoured.

The chief guest at the event was Sudha Yadav, former Member of Parliament, and she honoured the women by giving them a memento and a bouquet.

Meanwhile, at Sandeep Khirwar’s office (Gurgaon police commissioner), school girls painted the walls of the office with messages about traffic rules. The paintings also depicted eve teasing, domestic and workplace harassment of women.

The students were from a government school on Khandsa Road and the event was organised by Gurgaon police in association with a leading automobile company.

"The girls have painted the walls beautifully. These paintings have both a message and a warning. We are trying our best to stop crimes against women and will take strict action against offenders," said Khirwar.
