Another dark lane in Dwarka

A lane in Sector 12, behind Sri Hari Apartments, Sahyadri Apartments and Gangotri Apartments, becomes a hotspot for illegal activities after dark.

Another dark lane in Dwarka

Residents of Sector 12, Dwarka, feel unsafe taking a lane in the area after sundown due to a lack of streetlights. The lights are either non-functional or missing. The lane runs behind societies such as Sri Hari Apartments, Sahyadri Apartments and Gangotri Apartments.

Residents and RWAs of the societies say the lane becomes a hub for hooligans and antisocial elements after sunset, and that they are concerned about security in the area.

A light pole without any electrical fitting or bulb is located just behind Sri Hari Apartments. NC Mishra, president of the society, told City Spidey, “This fitting has been missing for a long time. We’ve raised the issue with the agency concerned but it has had no effect. There is also no light in the adjacent park and the stretch of road towards Sahyadri Apartments. The whole area is engulfed in darkness after sunset. The authorities need to take the matter seriously.”

Residents also want police patrolling in the area to be stepped up until lighting is restored. Umesh Kala, former vice-president of Gangotri Apartments, said, “The whole area behind our society is pitch dark after sunset. We have been facing security issues due to people drinking and other illegal activities in the area.”

“A few months ago, I raised the issue at a police-public meeting at National Law University, but nothing has been done yet. I request the police and the civic bodies to provide lights in the area,” he added.
