After Goa and Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad are set to have a new mode of transport — bike taxis. The final paperwork for the launch will be completed in the next two days and the service will be launched this week.

The service will cost commuters Rs 8.1 per kilometre. The name, address and telephone number of the rider will be written on the bike. In the initial phase, the bike taxis will have only male riders. The service will include women riders later. The two-wheeler taxis will be blue and red in colour; and pillion riders will be provided with a helmet.

Rachna Yaduvanshi, ARTO officer of Noida, told City Spidey, “The service will be provided by a company called Baxi. The company will launch the service in Noida, Ghaziabad, Hapur and Bulandshahr.”

Saif Khan, operation head of Baxi, said, “Lots of people travel from Indirapuram to Sector 62, Noida, for work and they generally use cars and autos. Our employees will reach out to them and tell them the advantages of the service. Thanks to this, commuters will have a relatively easier time on the road and traffic congestion will also be relieved.”

"The company will begin by launching 15 bikes, and as the number of customers go up, we will increase the number of bikes on the route," Khan added.

In the first week, the service will only be available on the route from Indirapuram to Sector 62, Noida. The registration of the bikes as taxis will cost Rs 300 and the annual tax on bike taxis will be Rs 2,300.

In June 2015, the company offered the service to the RTO department of Noida, which took approximately two years to give it the green signal.
