A sorry state of affairs: Roads in Dwarka The turn in front of Metro View Apartments, Sector 13

Damaged and broken portions of roads in Dwarka have become commonplace and are an invitation to disaster for commuters, especially those using cycle rickshaws, auto rickshaws and bikes. In some places, roads are so damaged that commuters avoid them.

One such stretch is near Shree Krishna Apartments, Plot No 10, Sector 5. Debabrata Guha Roy, a resident of the society, says, “The slip road near Rajapuri Tiranga Chowk is in bad shape. The area outside Jawahar Lal Apartments, Plot No 9, is in urgent need of repair. I have seen this road deteriorate over the last year. It’s dangerous to drive in that stretch. The authorities concerned should repair it as soon as possible.”

The main road near Metro View Apartments, Sector 13, has also become damaged over the past few months. The road is damaged in such a way that a turn there has become prone to accidents. Although bike riders haven’t suffered any serious injury yet, they have a hard time negotiating the turn.

Vinod Rawat, general secretary of Metro View Apartments RWA, says, “It’s unfortunate that the master plan road is so damaged. The damaged portion of the road is proof of the mediocre quality of work done by the authority.”

Some slip roads in the sub-city are so damaged that commuters avoid them and prefer other routes. Shobhit Chauhan, an RTI activist who has been writing to the authorities concerned about the issue, says, “At the T-junction near Peepal Apartments, Sector 17, the slip road on the side of the district park, Sector 13, is not suitable for commuting. Residents of the area say that the road has been in this state for over six months.”

“The slip road at Ashirvad Chowk, one of the busiest chowks in Dwarka, is also in a pathetic condition. The slip road on the side of the Sector 12 market has a deep pothole right in the middle of the road and has made commuting dangerous,” he adds.
