Valley View Estate's stray dog problem

Residents of Valley View Estate on Gurgaon-Faridabad Road are wary of the stray dogs in their society. They recently lodged a complaint with the MCG commissioner about the problem.

There have been three dog-bite incidents in the past three months. Residents said the dogs chased them and tried to bite them.

In February, a stray dog bit a nine-year-old boy's arm when he fell on one of the dogs while playing in the park.

Most of the residents said the children and the elders in the house missed going to the park.

"There are many societies that face this problem," said Preeti Jain, a resident. "These dogs usually attack kids and the elderly. If the authorities don't take steps to curb the problem soon, it would be a difficult situation to handle."

However, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) officials said they were working towards involving an NGO in the next financial year for sterilising stray dogs across the city. The exercise had been delayed so far, as no grant was provided to the NGO that was working with the civic body earlier.

V Umashankar, MCG commissioner, said, “The security of the residents is crucial for us. We will make sure that the problem is resolved as soon as possible. The MCG will appoint an NGO in the next financial year and ensure that sterilisation happens across the entire city.”

Recently, stray dog menace has been reported from various areas of Gurgaon, such as Sectors 49, 50, 56, 57, Wembley Estate, Mayfield, Nirvana Country and Eldeco Mansion.
