Inclement weather was no dampener to their spirit. A group of enthusiasts marked Women's Day by taking part in a walk for the girl child.

Organised by a forum of doctors from the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Noida, the theme of the walk was "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao", a campaign to spread awareness about the need to secure a girl child's future. Participants included medical and IT professionals, engineers, social activists and homemakers.

At 7 am, they gathered at the Noida Sector 31 community centre and the 6-km walk was flagged off at 7.15 am by MLA Vimla Batham. The walk culminated at Noida Stadium.

Speaking to City Spidey, Shruti Mittal, a Noida resident, questioned society's gender bias. “If we have to succeed in any field, we need support from both men and women. Why then does our society make a distinction between male and female?” she said. “It’s time we changed this mindset and walked beside each other to reach our goals.”

Batham released two magazines on the occasion — one brought out by Noida Circle of Moms, a city-based women's group, and the other by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics.
