Sec 29, Gurgaon: ‘Marathon’ at Leisure Valley Park

About 700 residents took part in a "marathon" held at Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29, Gurgaon, on March 19.

Yashpal Yadav, Haryana Urban Development Authority administrator, was the chief guest at the event. The event was organised by Mile Runners India, a social runners' group.

There were three race categories at the event — 3 km, 5 km and 10 km. Cultural programmes were also held. The money received at the event through donations will go to Earth Saviours Foundation, an NGO that provides assisted living and caters to orphans and the differently abled.

Naresh Kumar Yadav, one of the organisers, said, "The event was organised from our own funds. We want to do something for orphans, the differently abled and those in need of assisted living.”

Ravi Kalra, president of the NGO, said, "This was a wonderful initiative. Our NGO has been working for such people for many years and caters to those who cannot stand, eat or sit on their own. One day two girls — Pooja Rao and Soni Rao [both residents of South City I, Gurgaon] — came to our NGO. After seeing the condition of those we help, they also decided to do something. They organised this event to support such people. Many organisations have also come forward to support the cause."

Sandeep Virmani, a resident of DLF Phase I, said, "The event was great. Many residents from DLF Phase I, II, III, IV and V came to the event. The organisers also ran a social media campaign about the event. Mile Runners India is doing a wonderful job to help senior citizens who have been abandoned by their children.”

"Mile Runners India organised the event for a noble cause. Such events should be organised regularly," said Yadav.
