The RWA of Tulip Violet on Sohna Road, Sector 69, Gurgaon, on March 20 organised a fire drill to check the society's preparedness to deal with a fire incident.

The condominium is spread across 30 acres of land and has two towers with 14 storeys each.

During the drill, the officials briefed residents on measures to be taken if a fire breaks out. They illustrated various types of fires and precautions to be taken in each case.

The firefighting team demonstrated how to enter a room on fire and rescue victims. The team also demonstrated rescue techniques to extract trapped people from buildings using ropes and ladders. Residents were also taught different methods to put out fires.

“This is the first time I have attended a fire drill," said Shweta Singh, a resident. "I never thought it would be so educative. I am glad I will now know how to react in case of a fire. I will also be able to help a fellow resident."

Residents also learnt how to use fire extinguishers as part of the session. In another exercise, a fire was started at a higher floor and firefighting water pipes from the ground level were used to douse the fire.

Parveen Jain, CMD of Tulip Infratech, said, “The aim of this fire drill was to teach residents, guards and maintenance staff to tackle an emergency situation. People were also briefed on the location of safe exit points and routes."
