Gurgaon's MG Road to get a makeover

MCG has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for unauthorised parking and encroachments, two of the main causes behind traffic congestion.

Gurgaon's MG Road to get a makeover

Gurgaon's arterial MG Road will soon wear a brand-new look, free from encroachments and parked cars. The decision was taken at a meeting held earlier today, March 21.

Senior officials of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), Gurgaon Police and Town and Country Planning Department were present at the meeting.

Starting March 24, MCG will start a drive against two of the main reasons behind traffic congestion on the road — encroachments and unauthorised parking.

"We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy for unauthorised parking and encroachments," said Rohit Yadav, joint commissioner, MCG. "We will not allow kiosks on the footpaths along the road. Property tax will be collected from malls and commercial establishments that have paid-parking facility. We will send them a notice shortly."

"Not only MG Road, but all major roads in the city will be free of encroachments from March 24," said MCG commissioner V Umashankar.
