Gurugram Kala Utsav, a two-day cultural festival showcasing dance and music from various states, will be held at Gurgaon’s open-air theatre — Rangbhoomi — in Sector 29 on March 25-26.

The three-hour event will start from 6 pm on both days. Entry will be free.

Nritya Dhara, a Gurgaon-based Odissi dance institute, and Ashray, a non-profit socio-cultural organisation, are organising the cultural extravaganza in collaboration with Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG).

Organised as part of the Haryana Swarna Jayanti Utsav, nearly 40 artistes from different states are to participate in the event.

Festival director Vani Madhav said, “The central idea behind the festival is to promote and popularise classical music and dance. Residents seem to be extremely keen to see Gotipua, one of the precursors of Odissi dance, and Kuchipudi dance from Andhra Pradesh.”

He added, “The earnings from the event will go towards promoting folk music and folk artistes. This is a great opportunity for people to witness performances they are otherwise unable to.”

Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan, will be the chief guest, while Amarendra Khatua, IFS, director-general of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, will be the guest of honour. Amit Khatri, additional commissioner, MCG, will preside as the special guest.

Besides cultural performances, there will be food stalls from different states. Visitors can attend literary meets, handicrafts exhibitions, workshops and other activities.
