EDMC removes more than 50,000 illegal banners and posters

With Delhi municipal elections just a month away, all three municipal corporations of Delhi (NDMC, SDMC and EDMC) have launched drives to remove illegal hoardings, banners and posters from light poles and walls in and around residential societies. In the first two days of this four-day drive, on till March 24, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has removed more than 50,000 illegal hoardings, banners and posters.

EDMC has also appealed to residents to call the corporation on 011-22165880 if they notice any illegal or political hoarding in their neighbourhood.

Political parties often put up hoardings and posters in residential societies to promote themselves.

"The drive was launched as per a directive by Dr Mohan Jeet Singh, EDMC commissioner," said VP Sharma, a senior EDMC official. "We aim to remove all illegal hoardings and posters in the next two days. Delhi State Election Commission has also issued a directive to all municipal bodies today to cover all advertisements boards bearing either the name of Aam Aadmi Party or an image of any its leaders."
