SPCA to consult RWAs for stray-dog sterilisation

RWAs of Noida on March 24 have forwarded a schedule for sterilising stray dogs to Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

At a meeting on March 22 involving  Dr SK Dwivedi, Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA), Noida Authority and SPCA, it was decided that sterilisation needs to be carried out in accordance with a monthly schedule prepared by FONRWA.

FONRWA has shared the schedule Anuradha Dogra, member of board of management of SPCA. Copies of the schedule have also been given to NP Singh, District Magistrate, Gautam Buddha Nagar; Dr SK Dwivedi, CVO; and ML Gupta, Chief Development Officer of the district.

As per the schedule, SPCA will carry out sterilisation in sectors 12, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 34 and 61 in April. These Sectors have been selected based on the number of stray-dog bite complaints received.

Till now, SPCA has been carrying out sterilisation without any inputs from the RWAs. However, sterilising the dogs did not ameliorate the problem in most areas. Noida Authority, which sponsors the sterilisation process, had received several complaints against SPCA, as sterilisation did not seem to help.

Acting on the complaints, Noida Authority directed SPCA to carry out sterilisation keeping the RWAs in loop. AN Dhawan, secretary-general of FONRWA, said he had forwarded the schedule for the month of April to SPCA. "The aim is to complete five sectors in a month," he added.
